The Art History classes taught by Valeria Kouznetsova are fun and exciting for kids. It is an adventure into the beautiful world of ancient civilizations, great cultures and famous artists.
Each Art History class begins with a short lecture followed by a related art project. Before beginning the project, the kids have a discussion with the teacher about the historical material covered in the lecture. They talk about the images they saw, the purpose and importance of those images and how different cultures express themselves in art.
Kids get really excited about Art History classes because they have the opportunity to not only learn new and fascinating things but also to explore that knowledge hands on. Through the projects, the kids get to recreate a small piece of history and it is really amazing to see how they can relate to these Art movements and even express their own emotions in the projects. Teaching children about the history of Art is more than just having them recognize a Van Gogh or Picasso. It's about preparing young minds for a future of invaluable experiences - art related or otherwise.
